Further to the boil advisory water issued for the residents on George Street from Mackenzie Lane (formerly Edith Street) to the West end of George Street, the Municipality continues to work with Southwestern Public Health to resolve this issue.
When an adverse sample is received, the Municipality is required to notify Southwestern Public Health and resample the water. Test results take 24 hours to complete. Once two consecutive test results are received from the accredited drinking water testing laboratory, the results are given to Southwestern Public Health to review and possibly remove the requirements for boiling water prior to drinking. The earliest results can be reviewed will be Thursday evening.
Once Southwestern Public Health lifts the boil water advisory, affected residents will receive direct notification again. Until that time, we ask that this area continue the direction from the Medical Officer of Health to boil the water prior to consumption.
Since this section of Port Stanley is the only area affected by this notice, the Municipality wishes to reassure residents that the water in all other areas of Port Stanley is safe for consumption and verified with daily water testing sent to an accredited drinking water testing laboratory.
The Municipality of Central Elgin operates the water distribution in accordance with the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks Regulations with regular inspections from Provincial Officers. Reports on the drinking water systems are publicly available on the Municipalities website: https://www.centralelgin.org/en/living-in-central-elgin/water-quality-testing.aspx#Annual-Reports for the public to view.
