The proposed new Official Plan for the Municipality of Central Elgin was presented to Council by the project consultants, Dillon Consulting, on January 18, 2010 .
You are invited to attend an open house with representatives from the Municipality’s Official Plan Steering Committee, municipal and planning office staff, and Dillon Consulting to review the current draft of the proposed new Official Plan for Central Elgin.
Public open houses are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
Thursday, March 4, 2010 – Free Reformed Church, 145 St. George Street, Lynhurst
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 – Belmont Arena & Community Centre, 14020 Belmont Rd., Belmont
Thursday, March 11, 2010 – Port Stanley Arena & Community Centre, 332 Carlow Rd., Port Stanley
For each public open house, doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with a presentation at 7:00 p.m. and open discussion from 7:15 to 8:30 pm.

Public participation is vital in the development of a new Official Plan. Council retained Sue Cumming of Cumming + Company to facilitate stakeholder and community outreach initiatives at the commencement of the new Official Plan preparation in 2007. The outreach initiatives were intended to:
- educate the community and stakeholders about the importance of the Official Plan and what it means for them,
- provide opportunities for the public to share their longer-term vision for the municipality, and
- enable the public to have meaningful input into the development of the new Official Plan.

The workshops were well attended and many ideas for the official plan as well as strategic plans and community improvement initiatives were presented. The committee met to review the ideas and the staff and the Planning Office will be reviewing the suggestions and incorporating them into the new official plan. Thanks to all who participated.
